Hello Annika,

thank you for that, even if most of us know this, there are always new readers here which may find it very helpful!

As you commented on one of the photos you showed here, you bought your car in sweden! here in germany many people believe that swedish cars have little to no corrosion/rust. i talked to some swedish people i met here in germany who told me that this is only true for cars from northern sweden... so what about you badewanne? is there anything rusty in the wheel houses or the underside ? on the photos it looks quite nice!
what is necessary to make it a good driver ? do you have to overhaul brakes, steering or something else ? very interested in that, because swedish offer seem very cheap to us compared to german prices...
i hope my questions do not bother you.
regards
klaus KW

Hallo Klaus

I don´t think Swedish cars are in better shape than the German cars considering rust/corrosion. Except in the northern part of Sweden, salt is not used so often and the temperature is more stable and cold. Maybe that is the reason why cars from the northern part use to be quite free from rust and corrosion. If you find a fine Badewanne from up north, it may be worth taking a look. Normally cars from there use to be in a good shape.

Considering my car, I havent brought her home yet though winter conditions. The car is in a fine shape, the first owner born 1911 seems to have taken very good care of his car. Then his son had the car and he also has taken good care. The care is well tectyl/dinitrol treated several times and it seems free from rust all over. And the last 20 years the car has not so many kilometers.

My "Badewanne" seem free from rust and it is well taken care of. I dont think I need to do any big overhaul except checking things up. Tires will be replaced though they are old, and I will try to find those with white sides.

When I have taken my car to my hometown, I will give the "Badewanne" a genuine service, checking up things and replace if neccesary. Also all liquids, oils etc will be replaced. It seems to be in fine condition, but there is always something to do. I have already started to collect spareparts. A Taunus Blaupunkt radio is on my list!

Then I will maintain the car, overhaul when needed and treat the "Badewanne" gently with love. Hopefully I will meet "Badewanne"-fans here and it is always nice with people as have common interests.

I will of course add pictures when the spring and summer comes and I will try to read and learn as much as possible about my "Badewanne".

Best regards

Annika

hi annika,

thank you for this detailed informations!
it really seems that you made a good deal with your taunus!
you will see that the car is a real eye-catcher, and it doesn't have that snobbish appearance as an old mercedes or porsche has - people just love the ford!

Due to its fairly simple mechanics the car is easy to maintain, very comfortable to drive and as i say, every ride is like a small holiday :)
(and i had about 15.000 km holiday the last two years  )

So i wish you lots of fun with the car, enjoy the unique design and gentle rides, looking forward for the photos!

best regards
klaus

PS: if you are able to understand german, i highly recommend you to get that book:
www.amazon.de/Jetzt-helfe-selbst-Ford-Taunus/dp/B0000BS3XS
It is much easier to understand than the official workshop manual, and describes the most important service work one can do without having a car workshop at home.
(the book is available sometimes at ebay or amazon, about 20 euros...)
