Topic-icon How to? Blaupunkt Frankfurt - Badewanne?

Hallo, Badewanne Freunde.

I have still not yet got my wanne to my hometown and I long for the day when the snow is gone. However I have bought some accessories and spare parts already. Right now I am studying my Blaupunkt Franfurt radio (1965) and the Taunus Radio Blende as I bought. The radio works perfect with great sound and the lights as well on the radio display. The radio looks like a masterpiece comparing to all plastic “made in china” of today…

Though I don’t have my car here yet, and the mountings seem so different from stereos of today I am trying o figure out how to attach the radio. First of all, do I need brackets or any kit for holding the radio though it is quite heavy? I guess I need to fixate the rear part of the radio. Kit?

Another question is of what I can se of the dashboard of the badewanne, it seems to be an area to remove for the radio, but I don’t think so though the edge of the Radio Blende seems to suite those guidelines. I am confused. Or shall I drill two holes and cut out rectangle for the radio on the dashboard plate? However, I will not do anything until I really know all of how to do. I am just curious.

Anyway, I don’t have the car here yet, but I am so damned curious of this, I haven’t seen such kind of radio before. What will I need? Do I have to remove the entire plate as cover the speakers, instruments etc for mounting a radio? What else kit might I need?

My technical English is not so good, but I have a good hand for doing things properly such as I have earlier replaced cylinder heads, water pumps on other cars by my own, so I think I will be able to make this also. I use to do things very properly. Just that I don’t really understand what I see on the dashboard without having my car here.

Is there anyone of you as can explain, maybe having a kind of drawing for how to do and also tell me what eventual kit as is needed. All hints is welcome.

Mit freundlichen Grüßen.

Annika

Hello Annika,

this picture will answer most of your questions i think:
17m-p3.de/index.php?option=com_joomgallery&func=detail&id=2150&Itemid=55&lang=de#

So, you have to remove the dummy cover in the dashboard, it is only pushed in (no screws). remove this dummy:
17m-p3.de/index.php?option=com_joomgallery&func=detail&id=4173&Itemid=55&lang=de

Instead of the dummy you need part 7 as cover (fits over buttons and rectangle. picture of part7 www.oldcars.de/cgi-bin/shop/shop.pl?f=NR&c=5405953-1&t=temartic&userid=4297&exact=1
you will also need part 5 as mounting bracket.
look here:
17m-p3.de/index.php?option=com_joomgallery&func=detail&id=830&Itemid=55&lang=de

this is a steel part with two threaded holes in the lower part. (however, i did make my radio bracket (part5) from plywood, works fine)

sorry for my short answer, but i am in the office now. if you have any other questions, just ask!
regards
klaus KW

Hallo Annika !
Helau, hier ist heute Karneval, wir feiern heute in der Firma und in der Wirtschaft. B) :cheer:

Hi Annika,
in the moment, I place also a radio (Blaupunkt Frankfurt) in my Wanne. This, what Klaus and Karli has said, is all OK.
You should go to a tinsmith and buy there a perforated iron (2 x 30cm, with whole by whole). Than you can fix the radio left and right with this iron and this 2 scews (behind). You fix all by the scews of the wiper.
The speaker is coming also under the dashboard, with
4 screws.
By the ashtray, you have to make a whole, where you fix all, with this iron of Karli (picture).
regards,
Wolle

PS.
You can come also to Germany, than I'll show you, how to to do it! :woohoo: :woohoo:

Hello,

if you have a early 60th Blaupunkt with separated Tuner from Amplifier you don't need any kind of additional fixing but the front adapter Klaus mentioned! The amplifier can be based precisely on the bottom of the instrument panel reinforcement! It's a very nice construction. Later (P5 etc) you need an additional fixing using the rear threaded at the tuner.
If i find the time, I will prepare some kind of drawing.

Regards
ESC

Hallo ESC, Karli, Klaus KW und Wolle.

Danke Schön!

I am now start to understand how the radio shall be attached. It´s a bit different from the stereos of today. This seems more like handcraft. Thanks Klaus KW for the pictures. They say a lot. :S

I also now understand that I need some "perforated iron" as Wolle mentioned. ;)

Yes - ESC, I have an early 60th Blaupunkt with separated Tuner from Amplifier. The Radio is a Blaupunkt Frankfurt year 1965 and I have already the Taunus Radioblende. I am looking forward for some kind of drawing if got time ESC :)

The Bracket I will need as Klaus KW say, have you possible a drawing as show the dimensions. If it´s hard to find one, I will also probably try to make one in plywood, it can´t be so difficult.

Karli! You are able to find my car in my profile and Danke Schön for the hints. :)

Now, my friends, You have planted ants in my brain and I will try to find my way for doing all this. I still wait for bringing my badewanne home and I am sure that I get all much more clear in my brain when I see the dashboard in real.

When I look at the picture as Klaus KW sent I still wonder if the complete pre-market oval area on the dashboard shall be removed. Anyway, I get the time to find out.

Danke Schön, all friends. I do really appreciate all hints from you and it is a pleasure being a member here. We have the common interest, "Die Linie der Vernunft", our beautiful Badewannes!

Herzliche Grüße aus Schweden

Annika
